BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.14 percent to 3,206.92 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.12 percent lower at 9,885.65 points.
The combined turnover covered by the two indices stood at 1.06 trillion yuan (about 147.28 billion U.S. dollars), down 209.2 billion yuan from the previous trading day.
Shares in sectors related to influenza and traditional Chinese medicine were among the biggest gainers, while those related to retail and community group purchases suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.09 percent to close at 2,014.19 points. ■
